PERIPHERAL’s objective chain has two connected halves: restore the facility’s power, then prepare the locked escape. Power requires fuses and all three generators. Escape requires a key and a code that the game does not save for you. The final generator is also a danger trigger: when it turns on, the lights go red and the hunt begins. A good run therefore completes as much key, code, route, and battery preparation as possible before the last power step.

Generators

Track all three machines, confirm that they remain online together, and understand why the final activation changes the run.

Key and Code

Keep the physical key task and unsaved code task visible, preserve the combination, and connect both to the exit route.

Build an objective ledger for a procedural map

Because every match can produce a different maze, the most useful tool is a small live ledger rather than a static map. For each objective, record the nearest durable landmark, the branch used to reach it, and its current state. A generator that was merely found is not the same as one repaired and still running. A code that one player glimpsed is not secure until it has been repeated or recorded.

In a group, assign short callouts and one person to repeat state changes. “Generator two located beyond the pipe room; not powered” carries location and status. “I found it” does not. In solo, use the same discipline mentally: connect every objective to the route network before moving deeper.

The public information does not confirm fixed spawns, a map seed display, or a universal room order. Treat any fixed-location claim as match-specific unless it has been reproduced across current shifts.

Restore power without losing the chain

The official description says to find fuses and restart all three generators. It also warns that bad fuses and sloppy repairs make the power fail sooner. That tells you reliability matters, even though it does not publish the repair interface, fuse labels, timing window, or exact failure rule.

After each activation, inspect the current objective display and machine feedback. Keep the route back available. The First Light badge confirms success at the first generator, while Electrician requires all three running at the same time. If a machine fails before the third is ready, a historical activation count will not satisfy that simultaneous condition.

Do not let the entire group crowd one repair if other tasks can be searched safely. One player can work while another marks the return path or checks nearby branches, but regroup when creature pressure or uncertain feedback makes a split too risky.

Secure the exit package early

The key and code can be discovered while the power chain is incomplete. When either appears, convert it into durable information immediately. Announce the key location and current holder if ownership exists. Repeat the code exactly, have a second player confirm it, or make a private note. The game description explicitly says the code is not saved anywhere.

Do not assume the key and code share a room, follow a fixed order, or persist after losing a life. Those details are not in the public first-party material. Use the live objective state as the authority for the current match.

If the exit is located before the other pieces, add it to the ledger. Knowing the final route before the red-light hunt can be more valuable than activating another generator immediately.

Treat the final generator as a commitment point

Before the third generator comes online, run a short readiness check:

  1. Are the other generators still reported as running?
  2. Is the key found, or does the team know where its search continues?
  3. Has the code been preserved by more than one person or in a private note?
  4. Is the exit route known from the generator area or a shared landmark?
  5. Does the team have flashlight capacity and nearby cover for the hunt transition?

The official description ties the last generator to red lights and the hunt. It does not publish a grace period. Prepare before activation rather than counting on time afterward.

Recover when an objective state changes

A generator goes dark

Return by the recorded route, inspect the live fuse and repair feedback, and update the ledger. Do not assume the same failure cause every time.

The key holder loses a life

Check the current objective and inventory state before proceeding. Public sources do not confirm whether ownership persists or transfers.

The code was not retained

Decide whether the known route back is survivable. On the next run, require immediate read-back instead of relying on memory under pressure.

The team disagrees on locations

Regroup at the last shared landmark and rebuild the route from there. Avoid adding more relative left/right directions.

The hunt starts during preparation

Switch from searching to the safest known route and use the live danger cues. Improve the pre-trigger checklist on the next shift.

The exit rejects progress

Verify all three current generator states, then key and code completion. A previously completed step may no longer be active.

Solo and team priorities

Solo players must carry every part of the ledger, so route simplicity is valuable. Complete loops, avoid deep unconnected branches, and preserve the code outside the game UI. The Alone in the Dark badge confirms that a solo escape is possible, not that the game reduces objective count or danger.

Teams can parallelize, but only if discoveries are shared. Assign a power lead, route caller, and code backup rather than rigid roles that ignore the current layout. The official warning that a group guarantees nothing is important: more players create more search capacity, but also more chances for conflicting callouts, scattered lives, or an early final activation.

What the public facts do not settle

The exact fuse quality display, repair input, generator interaction time, failure interval, key ownership, code length, code generation rule, exit interaction, and persistence after death still need current in-game verification. This hub does not fill those gaps with numbers. It gives a useful order that remains valid: map the objectives, stabilize power, preserve the key and code, and prepare before the final generator begins the hunt.

For the complete end-to-end route, continue to How to Escape. For danger during the power chain, use the Survival hub.
