PERIPHERAL Hiding Guide

Choose a valid PERIPHERAL hiding place, follow the live breath prompt, and leave only after the creature's check has ended.

Hiding in PERIPHERAL is an active quiet mechanic, not a promise that any dark corner is safe. The official description tells players to hide, hold their breath, and stay quiet. The Held Your Breath badge confirms a specific success: the creature listened at a hiding spot and walked away. Use a location the current interface recognizes, follow its breath prompt, and wait for evidence that the check is over.

Identify usable hiding places before danger

As you search the procedural facility, notice interactions that the current game labels as hiding. Connect each to a landmark and an exit direction. A known spot on a known route is much safer than searching random scenery while the creature is close.

Do not assume every locker, cabinet, bed, shadow, or room corner works because it resembles a hiding place in another game. The official public text does not list valid object types. The live prompt is the deciding evidence.

Avoid treating one hiding place as a permanent base. Objectives still require fuses, three generators, the key, and the code. A spot is useful when it breaks one dangerous moment and returns you to the route.

Decide whether to hide or keep moving

Hide when the route ahead is worse than the known spot and the current prompt can be reached cleanly. If the creature clearly saw you enter, do not assume the interaction erased that knowledge. If an open route leads to a familiar junction or group support, continued movement may preserve more options.

The exact AI memory and entry safety rules are not public. Make the choice from distance, line of sight, current hunt state, and available paths rather than a universal claim that “hiding always works.”

During the red-light hunt, use pre-identified spots. The final generator is a known trigger, so there is no reason to discover every cover option after the phase begins.

Follow the breath-control sequence

Read the current device prompt. Public sources confirm holding breath but do not publish a keyboard key, controller button, touch control, meter length, or recovery rule. Start the action when the live interface indicates that the creature is listening, and maintain it according to the displayed state.

Stay quiet in voice and movement where the current game requires it. The Not a Word badge confirms that the creature hearing a player’s voice is a meaningful challenge condition, but its detection threshold is not public. Do not invent a safe volume or distance.

Release only when the current cues show the check has passed. The Held Your Breath badge’s wording ends with the creature walking away, which is a better exit signal than an unsupported fixed count.

Use a hiding decision checklist

QuestionSafer answerRisk
Is it a valid spot?A current interaction prompt is visible.Decorative scenery may provide no protection.
Do you know the route out?The next landmark is already chosen.Leaving into an unknown branch can repeat the encounter.
Is breath control active?Follow the live prompt and meter.Guessing a control can fail during the check.
Has she left?Current audio or visual state supports exiting.Leaving on an invented timer may be too early.

Coordinate hiding in a group

Call out useful spots while the facility is quiet. During danger, use short directions and avoid sending the entire team toward one interaction unless the current game clearly supports it. Public sources do not establish capacity, shared prompts, or whether one player’s noise affects another’s hiding check.

If a friend is caught, the Rescuer badge confirms that saving someone from the creature’s grip is possible. It does not provide the rescue control. Stay close enough to react, but do not leave cover based on a guessed timing window.

Recover when hiding fails

Ask which part of the sequence was uncertain: the object, entry route, creature awareness, breath prompt, voice, or exit timing. Change one factor on the next attempt. If no live prompt appeared, do not keep treating the object as valid. If the creature checked the spot, review whether breath control and quiet behavior were active.

After losing a life, recheck objective and inventory state before returning to the same branch. The game grants three lives, but public information does not describe respawn position or persistence.

What remains unverified

Valid hiding object types, entry controls, capacity, whether being seen entering changes the result, breath duration, recovery, voice threshold, check length, and hunt-specific behavior need live testing. The supported method remains useful: identify current prompts in advance, choose the spot from a route decision, hold breath and stay quiet during the check, wait until the creature leaves, and return to the objective plan.
